The BMW M60 is the first V8 engine by BMW (1992–1996). Aluminium block and head, DOHC, timing chain. Displacements 3.0 and 4.0 L, up to 286 hp (M60B40). Used in E34, E32, E31. Smooth and powerful. Early Nikasil-coated bores suffered from wear with high-sulfur fuel, later replaced by Alusil. M60 laid the foundation for future BMW V8s. Lifespan can exceed 300,000 km with proper care.
