• Simple design without Valvetronic • N45B20S performance version • Aluminium block and DOHC

The BMW N45 is an inline four-cylinder petrol engine produced from 2004 to 2008. It was used in the E87 and E46. Like the N40, it lacked Valvetronic, making it simpler and cheaper. The engine had an aluminium block, DOHC, and a timing chain. Displacement 1.6 or 2.0 litres, power up to 129 hp (N45B20S). It offered decent performance with moderate fuel consumption. Common issues are similar to the N40: timing chain wear and oil seal leaks. With regular maintenance, lifespan exceeds 200,000 km.
