  • Direct fuel injection (HPI)
  • Valvetronic system
  • Low fuel consumption and emissions

The BMW N43 is an inline four-cylinder petrol engine produced from 2007 to 2012. It replaced the N45 and N46. It featured direct fuel injection (High Precision Injection) and Valvetronic. The engine had an aluminium block, DOHC, and a timing chain. Displacement 1.6 or 2.0 litres, power up to 170 hp.

These technologies improved fuel economy and reduced CO₂ emissions. However, direct injection caused carbon buildup on intake valves, and timing chain issues were also reported. With proper care, lifespan can exceed 250,000 km.
