The BMW N57 is a modern inline-6 turbo diesel (2008–2013). Aluminium block, piezo Common Rail injectors (up to 2000 bar), start-stop, DPF. 3.0 L, up to 306 hp (tri-turbo N57S). Powerful, efficient, clean. Aluminium block less tolerant to overheating; complex systems demand expert maintenance. Timing chain stretch issues on early versions, but overall reliable. Lifespan can exceed 300,000 km.
