The engine had an aluminium block, DOHC, Valvetronic, and Double VANOS. Displacements 3.6, 4.4, or 4.8 litres, power up to 367 hp (N62B48). It offered high output, smoothness, and relatively good fuel economy. Weak points include cylinder bore scoring (Alusil), Valvetronic failures, and oil leaks. With proper maintenance, lifespan can exceed 250,000 km.
