The BMW M41 is a 1.7 L turbo diesel inline-4 (1994–2000). Used in E36 318tds. Cast iron block, aluminium SOHC head, timing chain. 90 hp. Economical but not sporty. Main issues: injection pump wear, intake clogging from CCV system. Capable of 300,000 km with proper care.
